To become a lawyer, it needs a Juris Doctor Degree. A lawyer has a key responsibility of consulting a client and provide a legal advice on how to address their issues. They prepare filings and prepare themselves to represent their client to court proceedings and should achieve a positive outcome for their client. Steps to becoming an honorable lawyer:

  1. Earn a bachelor’s degree. Luckily, law school does not require courses for law school admission. However, courses that can hone skills in writing, reading, public speaking, logic, and research are helpful.
  2. Take the Law School Admission Test. This is used to assess reading, comprehension, reasoning and critical thinking skills.
  3. Earn the Juris Doctor Degree. Law school takes up 3 years until the Juris Doctor Degree. Mock trials, attend legal clinics and write a law journal is practiced during law school.
  4. Clerkship! Consider participating in a clerkship, this can gain experience by working in a law firm, corporate office or government agency.
  5. Pass the Bar Licensure Examination. The examination has a written bar exam and a written ethics exam.

A successful lawyer has its own struggles. Here are the struggles every wannabe lawyers and every lawyer encounter:

It is hard to keep up with the clients. Some clients expect a lot from you, as a result, they have a wildly unrealistic expectation.

Lawyers consult and assess the client’s question, the client who only wants a quick answer. Legal advice is not that quick to comprehend and analyze the client’s situation.

You may win the case but your heart is still not happy. Regardless of the outcome, the litigation takes a negative toll on the people involved.

Lawyers never stop competing. Lawyers are extremely defensive and will do everything to gain the case.

Basic knowledge of business is expected from you.

In a nutshell, being a lawyer has also its own ups and downs. To not feel the struggle, live a balanced life. Be prepared to study more! One advantage is, you can speak and understand another language.
